Scone

Indian Scone

St Andrews Scone
Scone - St Andrews, Kazhakuttom Special  Snack
Though Scone originated from Scotland, it's a popular snack through out the world. Surprisingly Scone, is popular in St Andrews. I wonder who introduced Scone to this remote sea side town in Kerala. Do you have any answer to it?

My Grand Mom ( Polly Cruz) used to make Scone for evening snacks. It's still popular with folks in St Andrews, and people from St Andrews living around the world.

Here's the vintage Scone recipe from St Andrews

Ingredients for Scone ( St Andrews recipe)
  • Maida - 1 cup
  • Sugar - 1 tsp
  • Egg -1
  • Grated Coconut - 1/2 cup
  • Salt - one pinch
  • Water- 1 cup
  • Baking powder -1/2 tsp
  • Butter -2 tbsp
Steps to prepare Scone:
  1. Grind the grated Coconut.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix maida, baking powder, egg, water, sugar and salt
  3. Add the coconut paste and one table spoon of butter to the above mixture
  4. Heat the griddle (pan) spread the remaining butter in the pan
  5. Pour the batter in the pan and cover it with a lid
  6. Cook in sim for 5 min
  7. Flip it over and cook for another 5 min.
In seven steps, your first Scone is ready to serve. Have it hot with honey/ Jam/ cream/ butter.

Enjoy the Scone,

Marina
