| Cooking lessons - meeting people from Reunion Island |
One beautiful thing about taking cooking class from travelers is that I get to meet people from different other countries. And for the first time I had two ladies who came to Trivandrum for yoga classes and after that they joined for a day's cooking lessons. These two were from Reunion islands. As I didn't know more about this island, I had to google it and know that this island is located in the Indian Ocean, on the east side of Madagascar.
Btw, what are the common questions and doubts foreigners have about Indian Cooking?
For a beginner in Indian cooking, there can be many questions and doubts that play in their mind. It could be because of the variety of spices used in cooking or due to the different process that is used in making.
Few questions that I got for students from outside:
- Why do Indian recipes use so many spices? Can I simplify it?
- How do I store Indian spices?
- Is Indian food always spicy?
- How can I make Indian food healthier (less oil, less spice)? Are all Indian foods with too much oil?
- When I visit an Indian store, I'm confused about the spices? How do I select to make Kerala dishes and how to choose the right brand for making North Indian dishes?
- What’s the difference between curry powders and garam masala?
